This article summarizes two reports from the Building Movement Project (BMP) on leadership in the nonprofit sector: The Push and Pull: Declining Interest in Nonprofit Leadership and BMP’s 2022 report, Trading Glass Ceilings for Glass Cliffs. It notes a decline in interest among leaders of color to become Executive Directors/CEOs, attributed to negative experiences and insufficient support. The reports highlight challenges such as increased burdens, lack of compensation, and disparities in support compared to white leaders. Despite efforts for racial equity, leaders of color still face significant barriers and burnout, emphasizing ongoing challenges in achieving diversity and inclusion in nonprofit leadership.
